The cool thing about mecanum is it has four wheels in proper orientation but the drive base can go sideways and diagonally as well as forward and turning. It does this by having diagonal rollers on the wheels. Therefore when the front wheels go forward and the back wheels go backward the whole drive base goes sideways. Watch the video above a couple times to understand.
